Technical Support with due-diligence to identify entry points at the local Municipalities in the host communities and the Syrian refugees camp sites to highly labour intensive activities with the solid waste management with focus of involvement of the Syrian Refugees
The overall objective of the project is as follows:
- Support in conducting situational analysis at local municipalities (13 Municipalities) in the hosting communities and the Syrian Refugees camp sites ( in terms of waste management, data collection, and identifying the potential of 2 sites) Interventions;
- Support in assessing cleaning campaigns and recycling activities in the target areas; through appropriate labor intensive programs and Cash for Work (CfW) incentive based models for creating income generation potentials for the most vulnerable groups of the local society (Jordanian citizen and Syrian refugees) in Jordan.
- Define the appropriate MSW recycling and material recovery strategies, and recommendation for involving the informal sector, stakeholder analysis;
- Development of implementation concepts and potential of implementing partners.
Description of Approach:
The project aims to strengthen the resilience of the civil society and local institutions in refugee hosting communities within the local municipalities throughout Jordan in cooperation with the key stakeholders represented by Jordan Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MoPIC) and Ministry of Municipal Affairs (MoMA). The main focus of the project is the development of participatory systems to establish labor intensive material recovery and processing systems to create income generation potentials for the most vulnerable groups of the society (Jordanian citizen and Syrian refugees) that will also have a positive effect on health & environment.
The project includes implementing appropriate waste recycling strategies that would be approached at selected local municipalities including large refugee hosting communities (mainly Irbid, Mafraq, Al-Ramtha, Wasatiyyah, Al-Karak, Madaba, Dair-Alla, Ajloun, Burma, Jearsh, Burqush, Al-Merad, Al-Junied, New Al-Tayba, New Al-Mazar, New Umm El-Jimal, and Kofranjah) through collecting the MSW recyclable materials by the application of special recycling initiatives, public cleaning campaigns, and labor incentive based models (cash for work subsidies).
