Improving Solid Waste Management and Income Creation in Host Communities- Rehabilitation of Al-Akaider Landfill

The overall objective of the project is to improve the solid waste management cycle by complimenting the efforts undertaken by the different stakeholders on efficient and effective basic services delivery, namely by supporting the Joint Services Council in Irbid (JSC-Irbid) in the alleviation of the capacity and performance of Al-Akaider Landfill site. The key activities of the project are as follows:

  • Paving new roads and maintaining the existing roads within the landfill area;
  • Road Lightning and signage works;
  • Constructing green belt with irrigation system;
  • Rehabilitation and maintenance of the site offices building;
  • Rehabilitation and Maintenance of Site Staff accommodation;
  • Construction of a new gatehouse with control and monitoring equipment;
  • Construction of Site Monitoring Tower;
  • Design and excavation of a sanitary landfill cell with an area of 40,000 m2 and average depth of 15 m2 at the available airspace located inside the landfill area “not part of the new acquired land”;
  • Design and implementation of leachate collection and drainage system;
  • Developing the mechanical workshop and provide it with equipment and washing machine;
  • Provide the landfill with heavy equipment and machineries (2 bulldozers, 2 wheel loaders, tractor with water wagon, and 4 tippers, within capacity of 10 m3).
